Water sports in Los Gigantes: jet ski and kayak under the cliff

In Los Gigantes, in Santiago del Teide, two water sports can be booked, both from the marina and both under the 600-metre volcanic wall: a guided one-hour jet ski safari and a two-hour kayak tour with snorkelling to the bay of the Masca Gorge.

The jet ski is priced per machine: 130 € for a single and 140 € for a double. The kayak is 35 € for adults and 15 € for children aged 6 to 9.

What to choose by age and experience

Neither needs experience or a licence. On the jet ski you always follow a guide, with life jacket, wetsuit, towel, shower and insurance included, and there is a short briefing before setting off. The kayak is easy to handle, single or double, with a skipper alongside in a support boat; children aged 6 to 9 sit in the middle of a double kayak between two adults.

Both include stops in the water: the jet ski for photos in the Masca bay and, on the way back, a swim; the kayak for snorkelling with goggles included and a drink before returning by boat.

Confirmation and what to bring

Both are on request: the amount is held, the business confirms in under 24 hours and, if it doesn't, nothing is charged. They leave from the base shop at the port, so arrive 30 minutes early with your ID or passport.

The jet ski is not open to pregnant women, people with heart or back problems, or anyone who has drunk alcohol or taken drugs. If the sea doesn't allow reaching Masca, the guide shortens the route.
