What you can book in the Terra Alta today

Winery visits with tastings in Gandesa, the capital of the Terra Alta, about two hours by car from Barcelona and a little over an hour from Tarragona. They all take place on an organic vineyard estate and combine a vineyard walk, a winery tour and a tasting.

The Terra Alta is white Garnacha country: it is the grape that defines its designation of origin, and almost every visit pours it alongside red Garnacha and Carignan.

From a short tasting to a picnic among the vines

From 30 € there is a vineyard walk and a tasting of 4 wines (an hour and a half). For 45 € you taste the winery's 4 most emblematic wines, and for 60 € the visit focuses only on white Garnachas, from the young white to the selection.

To take it slowly: the same visit with a gourmet picnic among the vines for 80 € (three hours), or a long two-and-a-half-hour visit through the estate's soils and old vines for 120 €.

When to go and what else to see

Autumn is its best moment: after the harvest the vines turn red and yellow and, in early November, Gandesa holds the Terra Alta Wine Festival. In the same town stands the modernist Celler Cooperatiu by Cèsar Martinell, known as the wine cathedral.

All visits are on request: you choose the day, the amount is held on your card and the winery confirms within 24 hours; if it cannot, nothing is charged.
