What an olive oil tasting is

An extra virgin olive oil tasting is like a wine one, but with a small dark glass and a short sip: you smell it, taste it and look for fruitiness, bitterness and the peppery kick in the throat, which are signs of freshness, not flaws. Learning to tell them apart changes how you buy and use oil at home.

The experience combines grove and mill: a walk among the olive trees, an explanation of how olives are picked and pressed, and the tasting with bread and, depending on the format, a paired breakfast. It is a relaxed mid-morning plan, the kind that works well on a weekend away.

Formats, duration and prices

Today there are three formats from the same estate, in Pulpí. The visit with tasting lasts 90 minutes and costs 16 € per adult. The one that adds a paired breakfast lasts 120 minutes and costs 26 €. The tasting masterclass, at 150 minutes, goes deepest and costs 32 €.

There is a child rate for ages 4 to 7 (6.50 €, 10 € and 13 € respectively) and adults count from age 8. It is designed to be done as a family, with part of it outdoors: comfortable shoes, and a hat if it is sunny.

When to go and how to book

Days and times for each format are on its listing; in the olive harvest season, autumn into winter, the mill is usually running. Departures have limited places, so for Saturdays and public holidays it is wise to book ahead.

You choose format, day and time, and the booking goes to the estate, which confirms it. You receive a pass with a QR code by email and show it on arrival.

Frequently asked questions

How much is an olive oil tasting?

Today there are three formats from the same estate: 16 € per adult for the visit with tasting (90 minutes), 26 € for the one that adds a paired breakfast (120 minutes) and 32 € for the tasting masterclass (150 minutes). Children aged 4 to 7 pay 6.50 €, 10 € and 13 €, respectively.

Which format should I pick the first time?

The visit with tasting: it is the shortest and covers the grove, the mill and the tasting. The paired breakfast adds food, and the masterclass is for anyone who wants to learn to tell aromas and flaws apart at leisure.

Can children come?

Yes. There is a child rate for ages 4 to 7, and adults count from 8. Part of the visit is outdoors, so comfortable shoes and a hat if it is sunny are a good idea.

How do I pay and get confirmation?

It is booked on request: your card is authorised, but the charge only happens once the estate confirms the time, within 24 hours. If it cannot, the booking is cancelled at no cost to you. You then get a pass with a QR code by email.
