Whales and dolphins from Los Cristianos and Las Galletas

The three trips on this page leave from Arona, the municipality Los Cristianos belongs to, in the south of Tenerife: two from Los Cristianos harbour and one, private, from Marina del Sur, in Las Galletas. Between Las Galletas and La Rasca a resident population of pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins lives all year round.

This is watching wild animals, always from a safe distance: you see what the day offers and nobody can promise a sighting.

Schooner, small yacht or private boat

The 1962 wooden Portuguese schooner lasts 2 hours and costs from 27 € per adult and 13.50 € per child (2 to 11). It has an open deck, a bar and toilets, includes water and sails three times a day: 10:00, 12:00 and 14:00. The small yacht, with only 22 places, lasts 3 hours and costs 63 € and 31.50 €, with a menu with fruit and drinks included; after watching the cetaceans it anchors for lunch and a swim (10:00 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; 13:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays).

The private boat from Las Galletas is for a single group of 1 to 6 people, and the price is per boat, not per person: 350 € for 2 hours and 450 € for 3, with one hour stopped for a swim or snorkelling. It leaves Monday to Saturday at 9:00, 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00, in Spanish and English, and includes drinks and port fees.

How to book

All three are on request: you choose day and time, the amount is held on your card and the boat confirms within 24 hours; if it can't, nothing is charged. Once confirmed, the QR pass arrives.

Babies under 2 (schooner) or under 3 (yacht) travel free, but they must be booked. It fits a weekend morning or a day off: the free cancellation window is shown on each listing before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the boats leave from?

The schooner and the small yacht leave from Los Cristianos harbour (excursion pier); the private boat from Marina del Sur, in Las Galletas, also in Arona. Each listing gives the exact spot and asks you to arrive early.

How much does it cost?

The 2-hour schooner, from 27 € per adult and 13.50 € per child; the 3-hour small yacht with lunch and a swim, 63 € and 31.50 €. The private boat (1 to 6 people) costs 350 € for 2 hours and 450 € for 3, per boat and not per person.

Are whales guaranteed?

No: they are wild animals. Pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins live off the south coast of Tenerife all year round, but no boat can promise a sighting. They are always watched from a safe distance.

Can children and babies come?

Yes. Children have their own price and babies travel free (under 2 on the schooner, under 3 on the yacht), although they must be booked. Bookings are on request: the boat replies within 24 hours and, if it can't, nothing is charged.
