Two guided visits of about 90 minutes with an official tourist guide, in Spanish and at weekends only: one to Itálica, the first city the Romans founded on the peninsula, and another to the Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo, a medieval gem. Santiponce is on the edge of Seville and the two can be combined on the same morning.
Itálica was founded by Scipio Africanus in 206 BC and had its heyday under the emperors Trajan and Hadrian, who filled it with great houses and public buildings, such as its amphitheatre, where scenes from seasons 7 and 8 of Game of Thrones were filmed. The visit includes entry to the archaeological site.
San Isidoro del Campo was founded by Guzmán el Bueno in 1301 as a family pantheon and handed to the Cistercians; the Hieronymites came later and decorated its walls with paintings. It was also a focus of Protestantism in the 16th century. Entry to the monastery is free of charge.
Itálica runs on Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00, with a minimum of 4 people, and San Isidoro del Campo on Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30. Both cost from 13 € per adult, with a reduced rate for children up to 12.
Both are subject to confirmation: you choose the day and time, the amount is held on your card and the business confirms within 24 hours; if it can't, nothing is charged. The meeting point is the gate of the Itálica Archaeological Site and the monastery's Patio de los Naranjos, respectively.
