Santiponce · 90 min · 13 €+ · Margonvaz Tour Sevilla
Discover the Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo, a medieval gem in Santiponce, with an official guide and art historian. Guzmán el Bueno founded it in 1301 as a family pantheon and handed it to the Cistercians; a century later the Hieronymites of Lope de Olmedo arrived and decorated its walls with paintings. Legend places a school founded by Saint Isidore beneath the monastery, and a Mozarabic hermitage holding his remains. It was also a centre of Protestantism: several monks fled while translating the Bear Bible, and Philip II ended up expelling the order.
