The three visits on this page leave from a family-run olive mill in Pulpí, in eastern Almería, and take in one of its olive groves, the cellar and the bottling plant to see how an extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is born, from tree to bottle. All of them go through the mill's gourmet shop.
It is a calm Saturday or Sunday morning plan, with food or a tasting at the end, for anyone who lives in the province or in neighbouring Murcia and wants to know where the oil they buy comes from.
The visit with a tasting lasts an hour and a half and costs from 16 € per adult: you try all their EVOOs and condiments with bread. The healthy country breakfast, paired with the EVOOs and with local dishes, costs from 26 €. The sensory tasting masterclass with an expert taster, to learn to tell the aromas and defects of an EVOO apart, costs from 32 €.
Children from 4 to 7 have their own price (from 6.50 €, 10 € and 13 €, depending on the visit) and children under 4 go free. The visits last between an hour and a half and two and a half hours depending on the one you choose.
They run in Spanish, English or French, on alternating days and slots, and the group goes ahead with a minimum of 4 people. You get to the grove under your own steam and it is best to arrive 10-15 minutes early; the facilities are wheelchair accessible (say so when booking).
All three are on request: you choose day and time, the amount is held on your card and the mill confirms within 24 hours; if it can't, nothing is charged. Once confirmed, the QR pass arrives.
