Sanlúcar de Barrameda · 120 min · 2 €+ · Free Tour Sanlúcar
Walk the lower and upper town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda with a local guide, in two hours and paying for the tour with a tip at the end. We set off from Plaza del Cabildo, the heart of the town, and climb the Cuesta de Belén to the upper town, the oldest quarter, with its cobbled streets. We pass the Orleans-Borbón Palace, now the Town Hall, Las Covachas, the 16th-century Gothic gallery with its sea monsters, the Palace of the Dukes of Medina Sidonia and the Church of Nuestra Señora de la O, a gem of Gothic-Mudéjar art. We finish at Santiago Castle, the 15th-century fortress overlooking the Guadalquivir and Doñana, not forgetting the Renaissance cloister of the Auditorio de la Merced. Along the way come local legends, curiosities and the odd story from everyday life in Sanlúcar. Duration: about 2 hours, on foot and in Spanish. Minimum 5 people for the group to go ahead. For all ages; accessible for reduced mobility and pets welcome. If it rains, the route moves to covered areas; with heavy rain you are warned in advance. Bring water and comfortable shoes, especially in summer.
