Walk through the historic centre of Alcalá de Henares, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with an official guide born in the city, and pay for the tour with a tip at the end. This is the welcome tour: in an hour and a half you will understand a city with more than 2,000 years of history, the world's first planned university city designed by Cardinal Cisneros, the Alcalá of the three cultures and the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes. We start in the quiet Plaza de las Bernardas and build up step by step: the Archbishop's Palace, the Magistral Cathedral of the Holy Children, Calle Mayor and its old Jewish quarter (the longest arcaded street in Spain), the Cervantes Birthplace Museum, Plaza de Cervantes and the Capilla del Oidor, where the baptism record of the author of Don Quixote is kept. The grand finale is the façade of the Old University, with anecdotes, fun explanations and a game to round it off. Depending on the time, we go inside a monument if time allows: at 10:00, the Cervantes Birthplace Museum; at 12:00 and 16:00, the Capilla del Oidor; at 18:00 the route is outdoors only. The 12:15 departure is in English. Groups of 20 people maximum; with a full group the tour can run up to 1 h 45 min.
