Tip-based free walking tour of Comillas: sea and Modernisme

Comillas · 90 min · 2 €+ · Conoce Comillas

Walk through the essentials of Comillas in an hour and a half with an official Cantabria tourist guide and pay for the tour with a tip at the end. Comillas has three faces: a seafaring town with a whaling past, an old quarter of mountain-style manor houses and one of the great Modernisme ensembles outside Catalonia. This route brings all three together. We start at the Old Town Hall, where King Alfonso XII was welcomed in 1881, and cross the Plaza de la Constitución and the Corro de San Pedro to the Puerta de los Pájaros, Gaudí's other work in town. From the Santa Lucía viewpoint you look down on the harbour and the beach, the perfect spot for the story of the whalers. We continue past the Casa del Duque and the Güell y Martos park, where you hear about the life of the first Marquis of Comillas, as decisive a figure as he was controversial. We pass the cemetery, one of the most beautiful in Spain and full of secrets, and head back to the centre to finish by the Fuente de los Tres Caños. Along the way you get tips on where to eat, where to stay and how to continue your trip around the area, plus a film-related curiosity we won't spoil here. Duration: about 1 h 30 min, on foot around the centre The whole route is outdoors: entry to El Capricho de Gaudí is not included Suitable for pushchairs and dogs In Spanish Only cancelled in extreme weather

Under the arcades of the Old Town Hall, Plaza de la Constitución (Comillas). The guide waits there wearing an official guide badge; don't confuse it with the new Town Hall.

The tour itself is tip-based: at the end you give the guide whatever you think it was worth, no minimum. The booking fee is the only compulsory payment.
